What Is Transmission Service?
Transmission service is a necessary part of routine maintenance that is often ignored or overlooked. Your vehicle’s transmission fluid is what lubricates the moving parts of your transmission. The reason service is important is because over time over time the friction between moving metal parts of the transmission create metal particles that contaminate the transmission fluid, which starts to prevent the transmission fluid from lubricating those moving parts, which will reduce the lifespan of your transmission. A typical routine transmission service consists of a fluid flush and exchange to get rid of those particles. How often you get transmission service and what fluid you use depends on if you have an automatic transmission or a manual transmission. A vehicle with a manual transmission should be serviced between 30,000 to 60,000 miles, while an automatic transmission service should be serviced every 60,000 to 100,000. We always recommend you check your vehicle owner manual for recommended service intervals. Additionally, you can talk to one of our certified technicians who can provide you with advice on transmission service and other scheduled maintenance.
